Lahami Bay kite spot in Al-Bahr al-ahmar

Africa kitesurf spot in Egypt

Lahami bay and Wadi Lahami lagoon offer a huge flat and shallow area, perfect for learning to kitesurf or work on your best freestyle tricks. There are also a couple of waves breaking at the outside of the reef, so if you fancy throwing your kite surfboard in too there’s fun to be had there. A 2 km long narrow reef with a fantastic snorkeling area protects the kitesurf spot, meaning the water always stays pretty flat, even when the wind picks up. The peak tourist season in Lahami Bay begins in May and lasts until September, but it’s a spot which works year round and the winter is popular with European visitors as it’s a pretty short flight.

Kitesurfing Wind conditions in Lahami Bay

Similar to the Hamata Kite Village 7km further north, Lahami Bay offers some of the most consistent wind for kitesurfing in the winter season from November until March. However, the wind blows almost as consistently in the summer as it does in the winter, so it really is a spot for any time of year. When it’s windy it’s generally 15-25 knots The temperature in the winter can drop a bit, so a short wetsuit is worthwhile and you’ll want some warm clothes for the evenings and the desert gets cold at night! During the summer it can get really hot, so slap on that sun cream and protect yourself.

This kitesurf spot is a thermal wind spot so the wind statistics and forecasts are not always super reliable, as they struggle to estimate the thermal effect. To get more specific local wind information the best bet is to contact the local kite schools directly and ask for their help deciding when is the best time to visit.
